Titans Run Away with Win over Blugold Women's Basketball

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Despite taking the first lead of the night, the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team had a tough time in the second half at UW-Oshkosh and fell 69-44 at Kolf Sports Center tonight.

The Blugolds opened the first half with a three-point basket by Cady Roedl (Fr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.) but Oshkosh was quick to answer back, scoring seven unanswered in just two minutes.

With a two-point basket to put them up 5-3, the Titans took the lead and never trailed the rest of the game. Eau Claire trailed for the next seven minutes until a three-pointer by Courtney Lewis (So.-Prairie Du Chien, Wis.) tied the game at 22 with 5:36 left to play in the first half. Oshkosh capitalized off five Blugold turnovers to end the half on an 8-2 run and took a 32-26 lead into halftime.

The Titans were back in full force in the second half, where this time they opened on a three-point basket. Oshkosh steadily increased its lead throughout the second half and finished outscoring the Blugolds 37-18. The Blugolds managed to hit just eight shots and one free throw in the second half.

Leah Rempert (Sr.-Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) led the Blugolds in scoring with 10 points while four Blugolds each had three rebounds to lead the team.

For the game, the Blugolds shot 39.1 percent (18-for-46) while the Titans went 28-for-58 (48.3 percent). Oshkosh also held a rebounding advantage, 34-26.

Eau Claire goes to 9-12 overall and in 4-8 WIAC play as they dropped their fourth straight contest. UW-Oshkosh moves to 17-3 overall and 9-2 in the WIAC, in second place in the conference.

The Blugolds will be at UW-River Falls on Saturday. The game is part of a doubleheader with the men and will get underway about 5 p.m.
