DE PERE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Playing in their first games since returning from Florida, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday night, defeating St. Norbert College by scores of 10-5 and 10-1 (5 innings).

In the first game of the day, the Green Knights jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first and would hold it until the fourth when the Blugolds exploded for 10 runs. St. Norbert would get four back in the fifth but Eau Claire would hold on for the win.

Five Blugolds would tally multiple hits in game one. Ellie Decker (Sr. – Germantown, WI), Sadie Erickson (Jr. – Norwood Young America, MN/Central) and Maria Back (Sr. – Rosemount, MN) would each hit a double for Eau Claire while Megan Maruna (Jr. – Oswego, IL) blasted her third homerun of the season.

Three pitchers saw action in the circle for Eau Claire, with Madi Zerr (Jr. – Bristol, WI/Wilmot Union) earning the win. The junior struck out one and allowed just one run on three hits in four innings to improve to 4-0.

After a scoreless first inning in game two, Eau Claire tallied six runs in the second and would score at least one more in each of the remaining frames for the 10-1 victory.

Maruna, Erickson and Back each tallied homeruns for Eau Claire - all coming in the second inning – with Erickson and Back going back-to-back.  Back also was 3-for-4 at the plate and Decker contributed a 3-for-3 performance. For the day, the Blugolds out-hit the Green Knights 25-11.

Jacie Schultz (Fr. – Lake Crystal, MN/Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial) picked up her sixth win of the season, scattering three hits in four innings while surrendering one run.

The Blugolds (14-4) will be back in action Saturday and Sunday as they travel to UW-La Crosse and UW-Platteville to open WIAC play.
