Men's Cross Country Takes Second at Saint Mary's Invite

WINONA, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - UW-La Crosse proved to be too much to handle for the UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team, as the Blugolds came in second place behind the Eagles at the Saint Mary's (Minn.) No Limit Invitational, hosted by Saint Mary's University.

La Crosse had seven of the race's first 11 finishers to outdistance themselves from the Blugolds by a score of 28-56. A total of five teams competed at the invite.

Steven Schimmel (So.-Stewartville, Minn./Mayo) broke up La Crosse's scoring by placing fourth overall in a time of 27:49.3 over 8,000 meters.  

Ben Bierman (Fr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) also cracked the top 10 by placing ninth in a time of 28:26.6.  

Ryan Graham (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) finished 13th in 28:53.4, Josh Bodnar (Fr.-Nashotah, Wis./Arrowhead) finished 14th in 28:55.5 and Emilio Taiveaho (Fr.-Winona, Minn./Cotter) finished 17th in 29:00.3 to round out the Blugolds' scoring.

The rest of the men's team will run tomorrow morning at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, hosted by the University of Minnesota. The race begins at 10:40 a.m.
