Men's Tennis Completes Regular Season with Win

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with an 8-1 win over the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) at the McPhee Physical Education Center today.

The Blugolds finish the regular season with a 24-5 record. Eau Claire has reached 24 or more wins in each of the last four seasons.

Eau Claire won all matches today except in the No. 3 doubles spot.

In four of the six singles matches, the Blugolds had little trouble against the Saints.

Ryan Vande Linde (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles while Eric Wollum (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3. In the No. 2 spot, Lars Olson (Sr.-De Pere, Wis.) won 6-0, 6-1 while Chris Kuna (Jr.-Edina, Minn.), in the No. 1 spot, won 6-2, 6-0.

The Blugolds had to use super-tiebreakers to pick up wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Florent Marco (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) had a 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 win at No. 4 while Ben Robertson (So.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) won 5-7, 6-1, 10-7 at No. 6.

In doubles play, Kuna and Olson won 8-0 in the No. 1 spot while Wollum and Dirk Van Rybroek (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) won 8-4 at No. 2.

The Blugolds will now wait to see if they are invited to compete in the 2011 NCAA Championships, which get underway May 13.
