PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team fell on the road Saturday night, 74-64 to UW-Platteville.
Platteville was hot from the start and the Pioneers had a lead by as many as 20 points, but a surge late in the first half by the Blugolds pulled them within 11 at the break, 43-32.
Eau Claire cut into Platteville's lead several times in the second half, but could never take the lead. Platteville was up two with just over four minutes remaining, but outscored the Blugolds 11-3 down the stretch to earn the conference win.
George Diekelman (Sr. – Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) led the Blugolds with a team-high 19 points while Dan Becken (Sr. – Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) followed with 13 and had a team-high six rebounds. Chris Duff (Sr. – Walker, MN) also finished in double figures with 11 points.
Eau Claire (8-5, 0-2 WIAC) return to Zorn Wednesday as they host Whitewater for another conference match-up. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Follow the action on Blugold Game Day.
