EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team's 2023 schedule has taken shape. The 54th team in program history begins play in early September.
After a few scrimmages in late August, the Blugolds open their campaign with a trip to the west coast in September. UW-Eau Claire will play at the Pacific Coast Classic hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scrips in Claremont, Calif., on Sept. 1 and 2. The season debut is set for Friday, Sept. 1, against Whittier. The Blugolds also face Claremont-Mudd-Scrips and Pomona-Pitzer at the tournament.
UW-Eau Claire's home opener is scheduled for Sept. 13 against Bethel (Minn.) at the McPhee Center at 7 p.m. A few days later, the Blugolds host the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament sponsored by BSN Sports/Nike. UW-Eau Claire will face St. Catherine, Concordia Wisconsin and St. Norbert at its home tournament from Sept. 15-16.
The team's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener is set for Sept. 20 at UW-Stout. The Blugolds have home conference matches against UW-Platteville (Sept. 27), UW-Whitewater (Oct. 6), UW-La Crosse (Oct. 20) and UW-Stevens Point (Nov. 3).
The schedule features 10 matches against teams which made the NCAA Tournament last season.
The Blugolds have reached the NCAA Tournament in each of the last four seasons. They finished 21-10 in 2022 and fell to Gustavus Adolphus in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
