Blugolds lead wire-to-wire in 25-point win over UWSP

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team (11-3, 2-1 WIAC) dominated UW-Stevens Point on Saturday to get the 79-54 victory. The Blugold women came out of the gates swinging, leading 8-4 within the first minutes of play, and never looked back.

As a team, the Blugolds had quite the outing statistically. On offense, they shot 40 percent from three-point range, compared to Stevens Point's 16.1 percent and finished the game with a 47.5 field goal percentage. The strong shooting gave the Blugolds a 42-24 lead at the half.

The Blugolds came out of the locker room just as strong and never lost their lead. The largest lead on the night had the Blugolds up by 33 points. On defense, Eau Claire pulled down 25 rebounds and tallied 17 steals. The Blugold scored 27 points off turnovers and 20 fast break points in the win.

Individual stat leaders for the game included Kelsey Bakken (Jr. – Marshall, WI) and Hallee Hoeppner (Jr. – Winona, MN), who both racked up 20 points for the team. Bakken also led the team in rebounds with eight, assists with seven and steals with six. She ended the night with a 31 percent efficiency rating.
