Falcons outlast Blugolds, 4-3

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team continued Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic (WIAC) play on Saturday night, this time taking on UW-River Falls. After leading for two periods, the Blugolds would give up three goals in the third to fall by a score of 4-3.

For the second night in a row, Quinn Green (So. – West Chicago, IL/St. Charles East) scored the first goal of the game, lighting the lap at 4:32 with assists from Jarrad Vroman (Sr. – Lincoln Park, MI/St. Francis Cabrini) and Jon Richards (Sr. – Callaway, MN/Detroit Lakes).

Connor Szmul (So. – Castle Rock, CO/Castle View) would give Eau Claire a 2-0 lead at 11:59 of the first, with Ty Readman (Sr. – Edmonton, Alberta/Vimy Ridge Academy) earning the assist.

In the second period, River Falls would get on the board just over halfway through the period, but with just 15 seconds before intermission, Nick Techel (Jr. – Wausau, WI/West) would score his second goal in as many games to give Eau Claire a 3-1 advantage heading into the final frame. Austin Redders (Sr. – McFarland, WI) and Andrew McGlynn (Sr. – St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers College) would record assists on the Techel goal.

The third period would be all Falcons, however, with the home squad scoring three goals within the first ten minutes of the period and would hold off the Blugolds for a 4-3 win.

Goaltender Riley McVeigh (Sr. – Calgary, AB/Rundle College) (1-4-0) tallied 14 saves in the loss. The Blugolds would record 24 shots on goal to the Falcons' 18.

The Blugolds (4-7-0, 2-2-0 WIAC) will be back on the road Friday, December 10th as they travel to Stevens Point for more WIAC action and will host the Pointers on Saturday night. Both games are slated for 7 p.m.
