Men's Hockey Sees Winning Streak Come to an End

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The seventh-ranked UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team saw its seven-game win streak come to an end tonight, falling 3-1 to 13th-ranked UW-River Fallsat Hobbs Ice Center.

The Blugolds began their win streak on Dec. 13 while they were also on an eight-game unbeaten streak with their last loss coming on Dec. 7. The seven-game winning streak tied for the third longest in school history.

Eau Claire started the game with a goal from David Donnellan (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), seven minutes into the first period. Jeff Pauluk (So.-Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) and David Henry (Fr.-Forest City, Calif./Junipero Serra) assisted on the goal.

Less than two minutes later, River Falls tied it up on a power-play and the first period ended with a 1-1 tie. The Falcons added a goal in the second period at 4:51 and with less than three minutes to play in the game, added another to take a two-goal lead.

The Blugolds finished the game outshooting the Falcons 31-21. Tyler Green (So.-Noblesville, Ind.), who played 58:45, stopped 18 shots as he fell to 7-4-0 on the season.

River Falls finished 2-for-7 on power-plays while Eau Claire went 0-for-6.

Eau Claire drops to 12-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the WIAC while River Falls improves to 11-5-2 on the season and 4-2-0 in conference play, sitting in first place in the WIAC.

The Blugolds will be at UW-Stout next Friday and Saturday, facing the Blue Devils both nights beginning at 7:30 p.m.
