EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team was back at Zorn Arena on Wednesday night, after two Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) road games the week before. After a big road win over UW-Whitewater on Saturday, the Blugolds upset the #4 ranked UW-Oshkosh Titans in overtime, 74-72.

Box Score

The Blugolds were ready for the #4 Titans in the first half, attacking the paint with different mismatches on give and go passing. The Blugolds shot 59.3% in the first half with 13-20 in the paint to slowly pull away from Oshkosh 35-28 at the half. UWEC finished the night with 54 points from the lane. A defensive stance on the perimeter forced the Titans to shoot from beyond the arc early and limited them to 2-11 from deep.

Spencer Page (Sr. – Rice Lake, WI) led the Blugolds at half with ten points and five defensive boards.

The second half showcased some depth scoring for UWEC as Carter Hanke (Jr. – Marathon, WI) and Nolan Blair (So. – Stevens Point, WI) combined for 13 points. Brock Voigt (Jr. – Sun Prairie, WI) added to his nine first half points with a team high eight second half points. Voigt capitalized late in the half with seconds to go by making space in the paint and slamming home a dunk to put UWEC up 64-62. The Titans answered seconds later to tie the game at 64-64, sending the two team to overtime.

Brock Voigt didn't stop there as he tallied an extra six points in overtime for a game total 23. Caleb Hanke got the call on the final shot as he got the ball at the arc, drove to the lane, and sunk a step spinning fade away to seal the game with seconds remaining. Hanke finished the game with a career high 14 points.

The Blugolds (10-10 WIAC 3-6) will take an extended break with the weekend off. UWEC will be back on their home court on Wednesday, February 2nd when they host WIAC opponent, UW-River Falls. Tip off is scheduled for 7PM.
