EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire football schedule has officially been released for the 2021 season. The last time the team was on the field was 2019, when they went 3-7 overall and had a thrilling 21-19 victory over St. Thomas (Minn.) early in the season.
The Blugolds will begin their season on Saturday, September 4th at home when they host Luther College (IA). This will be the first time both schools will face each other. Kickoff is scheduled for 6PM.
"We look forward to opening the season at home against Luther College," said Head Coach Wesley Beschorner. "We can't wait to see Carson Park filled with students, community members, family and the Blugold Marching Band. It's our job to defend our field and city and the fall can't come soon enough."
Eau Claire will then travel to Dubuque, IA the following weekend, September 11th and face Loras College. UWEC is 2-0 all-time against the Duhawks with the most recent victory coming in the 2019 home opener.
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play begins on Saturday, October 2nd, when the Blugolds travel to UW-Stevens Point. Other road WIAC matchups include trips to UW-Oshkosh, UW-Whitewater, and UW-La Crosse.
UW-Eau Claire's Homecoming is scheduled for October 16th when the Blugolds host UW-River Falls for a 1PM afternoon matinee. A complete list of Homecoming events will be released at a later date.
"We are very excited to get back on the field," said Beschorner. "I commend our seniors, captains and entire team on their efforts to stay healthy, test regularly and follow all the protocols that are in place. They have earned and deserve the opportunity to go out and compete every day."
With only nine current games on the calendar, UWEC Football is actively looking for a tenth contest to complete the 2021 schedule.
