STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau baseball team wrapped up their weekend doubleheader series with UW-Stevens Point on Sunday. Two more terrific starts by Eau Claire were trounced by late inning runs by UWSP as the Blugolds dropped both games on the afternoon, 14-5 and 11-5.

Chaser Yaeger (So. – Black River Falls, WI) gave Eau Claire an early lead in game one with a two-run homerun into left field for the afternoon's first tally. UW-Eau Claire kept their momentum going in the second as Drew Salyers (Fr. – Centennial, CO/Arapahoe) reached first on an error by the Pointer shortstop, allowing Diego Caicedo (Fr. – Pompano Beach, FL/Northeast) to cross home for a 3-0 lead. UWSP answered back with one run in the bottom of the second inning, but Ryan Venne (So. – Eau Claire, WI/North) regained the three-run lead scoring on a bases loaded double play to keep some separation between the two Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) schools. After a two-run inning by the Pointers in the bottom of the third, Caicedo reached home for the second time in the opening contest on a fielder's choice by Salyers to make it 5-3.

The Blugold offensive flame ran out after the fourth inning as Stevens Point went on to shut UWEC out in the following five innings and tacked on 11 runs of their own for a 14-5 final.

Game two saw another hot start from Eau Claire as Otto Treichel (Jr. – Madison, WI/West) recorded his second homerun on the year and David Janssen (So. – Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) put a ball in play to bring Salyers in to score for a 2-1 Blugold lead. Nate Witte (So. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) extended the lead in the third on a wild pitch to make it 3-1, UWEC. Joe Clinton (Fr. – Aurora, CO/Cherokee Trail) and Drew Salyers pushed the lead even further in the fifth inning recording RBI singles for a 5-2 lead.

Stevens Point would not go away quietly as they kept the Blugolds off the board for the remainder of the game and rallied late for the second consecutive time with nine runs and a 11-5 victory over UW-Eau Claire.

The Blugolds (7-21, WIAC 2-16) will return home for a weekday WIAC doubleheader on Tuesday, April 26th when the y host UW-Platteville at Bollinger Fields. First pitch is scheduled for 1PM.
