Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team earned a 9-0 sweep over Macalester (Minn.) on Sunday March 4. The Blugolds last competed in October, and came off the break in dominate fashion.
Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, Minn.) led the way for the Blugolds at number one singles with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 victory. Sarah Henderson (Prior Lake,Minn.) picked up another convincing win at number two singles defeating Stein (MAC) 6-3, 6-3 . Kendra Berry (Duluth, Minn/East) edged out a close match at the number three singles slot, winning 3-6, 7-5, 10-2. Emily Cooper(White Bear, Minn. / Mahtomedi) and Hannah Zevenbergen (Baldwin, Wis. /Baldwin-Woodville) both earned wins at four and five singles, respectively. Molly Sanvik (Winona, Minn.) finished the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Bendetti (MAC).
In doubles action Henderson and Wijesinghe continued their winning ways, earning a 8-3 victory at number one doubles. Coper and Zevenbergen followed suit with a 8-2 win,and Berry with partner Sanvik finished the sweep edging out Stein/O'Herin (MAC) 9-7.
The Blugold women will compete as individuals in the USTA Tournament on March 9-11th at the Eau Claire YMCA.
