Blugolds Fall to No. 4 Texas-Tyler

TYLER, Texas (Blugolds.com)— In their third double header of the spring break series, UW-Eau Claire couldn't contain the hitting power the No. 4-ranked University of Texas-Tyler. The Patriots defeated the Blugolds in 5 innings by an 11-2 score and again in 6 innings, 9-1.

In game one, the Blugolds busted open the scoring first on a hard hit home run from Casey Arnold (Sr.-Kaukauna, WI) that would score herself and one other. But UT-Tyler would bring the bats and in the 2nd inning and a home run from lead-off hitter Raven Rodriguez would put them up 4-2. The Patriots would score three more runs in the 3rd inning and another four in the 4th to seal the victory.

UW-Eau Claire had just three hits to Tyler's eight. The Blugolds also had six fielding errors in game one. All eleven UT-Tyler runs were unearned.

Back again in game two, the Patriots bats were hot. UW-Eau Claire went three up, three down in both the 2nd and 3rd innings while Tyler scored two runs off back-to-back Blugold errors. Heading into the top of the 5th with one out and a runner on first, Leah Wolff (So.-Middleton, WI) sent a low fly ball to right-center field to score a run and get to 2nd base. That would be the lone run for UWEC. Tyler batters knocked in seven more runs in the bottom of the 5th and 6th innings to bring the final score to 9-1.

The Blugolds added three more errors in game two to go along with three hits. UT-Tyler put up 13 hits and came away with no fielding errors.

Wolff led the Blugolds in hitting on the day, going 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Arnold added the homerun in game one with two RBIs. UW-Eau Claire had three different pitchers seeing action on the day.

UW-Eau Claire moves to 3-7 and will play at UT-Dallas on Tuesday at starting at 5 p.m.
