Men's Tennis Finishes Strong in Texas

Kerrville, TX (Blugolds.com)- The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire men's tennis team finished their spring break trip to Texas winning a pair of dual matches on March 22. The Blugolds defeated Sul Ross St. and Schreiner on Thursday, sweeping both teams 9-0.

In doubles play in their dual with Sul Ross St., Adam Burk (Forest Lake, Minn. /Tortino Grace) paired with Renan Barros (Itajai, Santa Catarina, Brazil) in the first position and earned an 8-3 victory. At the second line Jackson Lindquist (Eau Claire, Wis. /North) and Evan Fridinger (Woodbury, Minn.) defeated Llamas/Gaytan (SRS) 8-0. First year players, Jordan Stephenson (Plymouth, Minn. /Wayzata) and Logan Scott (Foley, Minn.) saw action at the number three doubles slot, the pair earned a 8-1 triumph and finished the doubles sweep. The Blugolds went on to sweep singles play as well with Zach Janssen (Green Bay, Wis. / Notre Dame) leading the way at the number one singles slot. Daniel Schoen (Brookfield,Wis.) and  Grant Mauthe (Neenah, Wis.) both won convincingly at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Fridinger defeated Garcia (SRS) 6-0, 6-1 at the number four spot with Scott dominating at the five slot. Stephenson won in straight sets in the sixth line and finished the singles and match sweep. 

In their last match before heading home the Blugolds took down Schreiner 9-0. The duos of;  Andrew Dahl (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and Schoen, Mauthe and Janssen, and Burk and Barros, were all able to pick up double wins and give the Blugolds a 3-0 lead going into singles play. Eau Claire won all six singles matches, with Janssen earning a close win at the number one slot. He defeated Cabreja (SCH) 7-5, 6-4. Dahl, Barros, and Schoen picked up victories at the two, three, and four slots, respectively. Mauthe won another at the five slot, with scores of  6-0, 6-1 and Burk finished the sweep with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph at the six slot. 

The Blugolds won four duals in a row to finish their spring break trip with a 5-1 record. Eau Claire now, 14-2 on the season, will face Luther College in Winona, Minn. on April 6th and will host a pair of duals on April 7th.
