Men's Tennis Earns Two Weekend Victories

Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com)- The UW-Eau Claire's men's tennis squad earned a doubleheader sweep Saturday at the YMCA , with a 9-0 win over Dubuque College and an 9-0 triumph over Lawrence University.

In their match with Dubuque the Blugolds did not drop a set en route to a shut-out. In Doubles play, Andrew Dahl (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and partner Daniel Schoen (Brookfield, Wis/ Central) defeated Hernandez/Quiroga (DBQ) 8-3  in the number one doubles match-up. First year players; Jackson Lindquist (Eau Claire, Wis. /North) and Evan Fridinger (Woodbury, Minn.) earned another win at number two doubles, defeating the Dubuque No. 2 doubles team 8-1. Adam Burk (Forest Lake, Minn. /Tortino Grace) and Renan Barros (Itajai, Santa Catarina, Brazil) finished the doubles sweep with a convincing 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, the Blugods continued their dominance. Zach Janssen (Green Bay, Wis. / Notre Dame) earned a 7-5, 6-0 victory at No.1  singles, while Grant Mauthe (Neenah, Wis.) defeated Quiroga (DBQM) 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.  Daniel Schoen (Brookfield, Wis/ Central) continued his winning ways at No. 3 singles, and Barros, Fridinger,and Burk all won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4, 5, 6 sinlges slots, respectively. 

 

Later in the day the Blugolds rolled past Lawrence University 9-0. It was more of the same in doubles action with Dahl and Schoen winning 8-4. Janssen and Mauth paired up to earn a victory at the No. 2 doubles slot and Lindquist and Fridinger won 8-3 this time at the No. 3 doubles spot. In singles play the Blugolds stayed strong and finished the sweep. The closest match of singles action was at the No. 3 singles slot with Schoen coming out ahead of Delgado (LU) 5-7, 6-3, 10-8. 

The Blugolds improved to 8-1 and will host Macalester College on March 4th at the Eau Claire YMCA.
