Game Day Review - Saturday, March 8, 2014

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Four UW-Eau Claire Athletics teams were in action today, three on the road and one at home.

Men's Tennis

Elmhurst College (Ill.) 7, UW-Eau Claire 2
Carthage College 6, UW-Eau Claire 3

The men's tennis team ended a four-match winning streak, falling in two contests over the past two days at the Racine Racquet & Fitness Club. Friday evening, Eau Claire fell to Elmhurst College (Ill.) 7-2 and then came up short 6-3 to Carthage College on Saturday. Ryan Vande Linde and Joe Meier were the only Blugolds to win both of their matches, competing at No. 1 doubles. Will Weyenberg was the lone Blugold to win a singles match this weekend, picking up a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles against Carthage.

Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field

UWSP Last Chance

The men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the UW-Stevens Point Last Chance Meet Saturday and got one first-place performance. No team scores were kept during Saturday's meet. Cody Prince just edged out his teammate, Thurgood Dennis in the 400-meter dash for first place. Prince finished in 48.97 seconds, tying his own school record. On the women's side, Carly Fehler took home the top performance with a runner-up finish in the 60-meter dash.

Men's Hockey

WIAC Championship - UW-Eau Claire 3, UW-Superior 0

The men's hockey team won its second straight WIAC title, defeating UW-Superior 3-0 at Hobbs Ice Center tonight. The win was the Blugolds' 19th of the season, second most in school history, and 10th shutout of the year, a school record and one behind the NCAA Division III record. Patrick Moore, Ross Andersen and Joe Krause each scored a goal tonight. The Yellowjackets outshot the Blugolds 42-25.
