EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Three UW-Eau Claire Athletics teams were in action Friday, the men's and women's cross country teams hosting the Lake Wissota Invitational and women's volleyball at UW-Whitewater.

Women's Volleyball

UW-Eau Claire 3, UW-Whitewater 1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23)

The women's volleyball team moved into second place by itself  in the WIAC after defeating 25th-ranked UW-Whitewater 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23) at Kris Russell Volleyball Arena tonight, the Blugolds' first conference win over the Warhawks since 2005. The Blugolds improve to 15-14 on the season and 5-2 in the conference, guaranteeing they will at least tie for second place in the WIAC. Tomorrow the Blugolds will wrap up conference play when they compete at UW-Oshkosh. A win would give the Blugolds the No. 2 seed in the WIAC Championship, which gets underway Nov. 5, except for the top two seeds, which get first round byes. UW-Stevens Point, which won the WIAC tonight with a 3-0 win over UW-Superior, will host the WIAC Semifinals and Championship, Nov. 8-9.

Women's Cross Country

The women's cross country team used strong pack running, this time placing six individuals in the top 10 at the Lake Wissota Invitational, hosted by the Blugolds. No team scores were kept at the meet. Leading the way was Angie Gasser with a fourth place finish and a time of 19:49 over the duration of 5,000-meters.

Men's Cross Country

Led by two finishers of the top three in the race, the men's cross country team placed four runners in the top 10 at the Lake Wissota Invitational, hosted by the Blugolds. Jordan Rathke took second place with a time of 26:54 over the course of 8,000-meters.
