Volleyball Clinches WIAC 1 Seed with Dominating Performance over Stout

MENOMONIE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team was back in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Wednesday evening as they took on UW-Stout on the road. With a chance to clinch the top spot in the conference rankings, UW-Eau Claire swept the Blue Devils 3-0 and solidified their No. 1 spot in the standings.

The Blugolds broke out to a 10-4 run in the first set for a comfortable lead. Kendra Baierl (Sr. – Marshfield, WI/Columbus) led the team with 11 kills and swinging for a 0.563 swing rate. The first UWEC ended the set with a four-point run with a 25-19 final.

Eau Claire replicated their dominance in the second set with two five-point runs late in the frame to secure the 25-15. Jordan Witzel (Jr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) and Arianna Barrett (Sr. – Lakeville, MN/North) followed Baierl's offensive threat with a combined 21 kills.

Taylor Scalia (Sr. – Lake Elmo, MN/Stillwater) tallied 17 digs on the night with four individual assists of her own.

The final set featured a much closer game. Charlie Nelson (So. – Lakeville, MN/Farmington) gathered 13 digs and 35 assists on the night to close the Blue Devils out.

The Blugolds will travel to UW-Whitewater for two conference games on Saturday, October 23rd. UWEC will face Wheaton (Ill.) at 1 PM and Cornerll (Iowa) at 3 PM/
