DULUTH, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team was back on the court on Tuesday for a nonconference matchup against the St. Scholastica Saints. Coming off a big win at home the week before, the Blugolds kept their momentum rolling with a 3-0 road win over the Saints.
In the first set, Eau Claire gained a strong lead early to stay in front of the Saints. Sheridan Dettmann (Jr. – Watertown, WI) scored two service aces on the night to bring her season total to 11 through her 16 games played. A 12-point run in the middle of the set pushed UWEC to a comfortable lead on their way to a 25-14 win.
The following set entailed a much closer game with ten tie scores and six lead changes. The Blugolds found themselves down early, but the deficit would not hold. After multiple three-point runs throughout the set, UW-Eau Claire would find themselves with the lead late and capitalized with kills by Arianna Barrett (Sr. – Lakeville, MN/North) and Jordan Witzel (Jr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) to close the set out, 25-22. The duo combined for 16 successful attacks on the night.
Abby Volk (Sr. – Willmar, MN) started the final set with a pair of kills to gain a 3-0 lead. Eau Claire never relinquished their point margin on their way to the 25-16 win to complete the evening sweep. Volk tallied a team high six points with four kills and two blocks in the set.
The win away from home keeps UWEC with a perfect 6-0 record on the road. The AVCA.org 11th ranked team in the nation improve to 14-2 on the year.
