MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team played their final game of the Auggie Invite Saturday morning against Wartburg College. After putting together two wins the night prior, the Blugolds lost their first match of the season 0-3 (14-25, 15-25, 17-25).

Box Score

Unlike most games, UW-Eau Claire found themselves behind in the beginning set. A 10-2 run by the Knights created a deficit too big for the Blugolds to come back from in their first set loss. A similar story would be written in the second and third sets as Wartburg controlled the score after early leads.

Kendra Baierl (Sr. – Marshfield, WI/Columbus Catholic) and Arianna Barrett (Sr. – Lakeville, MN/North) led Eau Claire with 13 combined kills while swinging for 31.7%. The pair also totaled seven block assists together.

The Blugolds will head back on the road on Wednesday, September 15th, when they begin Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play. UWEC will face UW-River Falls at Don Page Arena beginning at 7PM.
