Track & Field Competes At Day 1 Of WIAC Championships

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's outdoor track & field teams traveled to UW-River Falls for Day 1 of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. Five Blugolds recorded personal best scores with both squads currently sitting in 2nd place overall.

Day 1 Results

UW-Eau Claire started the day strong in the 3000m steeplechase as Teagan Monfils (Sr. – Shawano, WI) and Emma Drangstveit (Sr. – Lakeville, MN/North) finished with personal bests. Monfils finished second with a time of 11:08.12 and Drangstveit came in third at 11:11.80.

Connor Dolan (Sr. – Nekoosa, WI/Assumption) also set a season best 3000m steeplechase coming in at 9:20.50 with his third-place finish.

In the field events, Marcus Weaver (So. – Lewiston, MN/Lewiston-Altura) took home the top spot in the javelin with a distance of 62.23m. Thomas Jensen (Sr. – Edina, MN) grabbed a second-place finish with his personal best 57.92m.

Megan Wallace (Sr. – Burlington, WI)smashed her career record in the javelin with a top finish distance of 42.93m. Wallace also took home third place in the long jump with distance of 5.52m.

With five events completed in the decathlon, Abrahm Schroedl (Sr. – Deforest, WI) holds the top spot among competitors with a score of 3534 points. Schroedl took home first place in the long jump and high jump.

Many Blugolds also locked up their spots in Day 2's finals after the qualifying events. Megan Wallace (100m hurdles), Glory Hecker (Sr. – Stone Lake, WI/Hayward Center) (200m & 400m), Dietrich Schwoerer (Jr. – McFarland, WI) (400m), Arik Skifstad (Jr. – Eau Claire, WI/North) (400m), Kady Kochendorfer (Jr. – Hudson, WI) (100m & 200m), Megan Best (So. - Oshkosh, WI/West) (100m), Anna Schueth (So. – Hartland, WI/Arrowhead) (800m), Mikayla Hady (Fr. – Springfield, IL/Sacred Heart-Griffin) (800m), Josiah Ziebell (Fr. – Mauston, WI) (800m), Chad Couser (Sr. – Rochester, MN/Mayo) (800m), Jaryn Johannsen (Fr. – Frazee, MN) (400m hurdles), Brady Deegan (Jr. – Albany, WI/Evansville) (400m hurdles), Mason Malm (Fr. – Loyal, WI) (400m hurdles), and Tyler Phetteplace (Jr. – Oconomowoc, WI) (400m hurdles) all qualified in their respective trials.

They will all participate in the finals tomorrow. Day 2 events are scheduled to begin at 9:30 am.
