Twenty Blugolds earn USTFCCCA Academic Awards

NEW ORLEANS (Blugolds.com) – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their Team and Athlete Academic Awards for 2020 on Thursday. Both University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's track and field teams were selected for their academic accomplishments.

The women's team earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.558 during the Spring 2020 semester and had 13 athletes honored for individual awards. Ashley Agrimson (Jr. – Peterson, MN/Rushford-Peterson), Megan Best (Fr. – Oshkosh, WI/West), Glory Hecker (Sr. – Stone Lake, WI/Hayward Center), Lizzy Keena (Jr. – Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln), Kady Kochendorfer (So. – Hudson, WI), Kassandra Lueck (Sr. – Nowthen, MN/Anoka), Jillian Moss (Jr. – Fitchburg, WI/Oregon), Marin Munos (Jr. – Oswego, IL/Aurora West), Karli Olsen (Jr. – Blue Earth, MN), Anna Schueth (Fr. – Hartland, WI/Arrowhead), Bailey Waldhauser (Jr. – Loyal, WI), Megan Wallace (Jr. – Burlington, WI), and Allison Weiker (So. – Roseville, MN) were named to the national Athlete Academic Award Winners list.

The men averaged a GPA of 3.146 during the Spring 2020 semester and had seven Blugolds earn individual honors. Brett Haffner (So. – Darien, IL/Hinsdale South), Hunter Henk (Sr. - Beldenville, WI/River Falls) , Jordan Lacey (Jr. – Greenville, WI/St. Mary Central), Jordan Lijewski (So. – Roseville, MN), Jake Petri (Jr. – Cottage Grove, MN/East Ridge), Arik Skifstad (So. – Eau Claire, WI/North), and Mitch Stegeman (Fr. – Coleman, WI/Suring) were named to the national Athlete Academic Award Winners list.

USTFCCCA Academic Awards Criteria

Division III Track & Field All-Academic Teams:

  • Cumulative team GPA (not 2018-19 academic year, not semester) of all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility must be at least a 3.1 on a 4.0 scale through the most recent semester/quarter, computed by the following method:
  1. Total the cumulative number of semester hours or quarter hours earned for all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility, including the most recent grading period;
  2. Total the cumulative number of quality points (GPA multiplied by the number of credit hours) earned by all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility, including the most recent grading period;
  3. Divide the cumulative number of quality points earned by the cumulative number of semester or quarter hours earned.
  4. Institutions utilizing a different GPA scale than 4.0 then must convert the GPA to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion method [GPA/Scale x 4.0]. Data must be certifiable by the institution's registrar.
  • Graduate students must take all undergraduate plus graduate coursework into account.

Division III Track & Field All-Academic Individuals:

  • Minimum CUMULATIVE grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale through the most recently completed grading period. Institutions utilizing a different GPA scale must convert the GPA to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion method [GPA/Scale x 4.0]. Data must be certifiable by the institution's registrar.
  • Graduate students must take all undergraduate plus graduate coursework into account.
  • Meet one of the following athletic criteria:
  1. Must have finished the indoor season among the top 50 individuals as listed on the descending order lists on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 50, but who were accepted into the Indoor National Championship, are eligible
  2. Must have competed as a member of one of the top 35 relay teams as listed on the indoor descending order list on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 35 relay teams, but who were accepted in the relay at the Indoor National Championship (alternates are excluded), are eligible. Finally, any competing relay team member on an expanded descending order list to include 35 institutions (1 relay team per institution) is eligible.
