Women's Tennis Sweeps MIAC Opponents

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team dropped just one match today as it defeated the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) 9-0 and Macalester College (Minn.) 8-1.

The Blugolds only fell at No. 2 singles against Macalester, though it was closely contested.

In singles play, Colleen McCullough (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) gave up the fewest number of games, competing in the No. 6 spot. She defeated her Saint Benedict opponent 6-0, 6-1 and followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over her Macalester counterpart.

With the Blugolds winning all six doubles matches today, Gretchen Bachmeier (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Maddie Johnson (So.-Lakeville, Minn./South), competing in the No. 2 spot, fell the fewest number of times throughout the day. The pair picked up an 8-1 win against Saint Benedict and won 8-2 over Macalester.

The Blugolds are now 6-1 in dual competitions this season, having won six straight going back to Sept. 5.

Eau Claire will get back to conference action next weekend. The Blugolds will host UW-Stevens Point on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and will host UW-Oshkosh at 9 a.m. Saturday.
