Women's Tennis Blanks Stout for First Conference Win

MENOMONIE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season, defeating conference rival UW-Stout 9-0 on the South Tennis Courts today.

Two Blugolds, Taylor Heltne (Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and Mary Frassetto (Jr.-Oshkosh, Wis./West), won their singles matches with scores of 6-0, 6-0. Heltne played at No. 1 while Frassetto competed at No. 4.

At No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, Renee Nelson (So.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) and Paige Kuepers (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) won with scores of 6-1, 6-2.

Katie Gillman (Jr.-Red Wing, Minn.) picked up a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 and Maddie Johnson (So.-Lakeville, Minn./South) won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3.

In doubles competition, Nelson and Kuepers won 8-0 at No. 3 while Heltne and Gillman won 8-1 at No. 1 and Frassetto and Johnson secured a 8-3 triumph at No. 2.

The Blugolds are now 1-1 overall and 1-1 in WIAC play.

Eau Claire will open competition at home on Sept. 15 with competitions against Wartburg College (Iowa) and St. Norbert College. Action gets started at 9 a.m.
