Women's Tennis Sweeps UW-River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team swept UW-River Falls, defeating the Falcons 9-0 at Ramer Courts today.

Eau Claire improves to 12-7 on the season while River Falls drops to 3-12.

Lexi DeMario (Fr.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) came away with the Blugolds' largest margin of victory as she picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

In the No. 4 spot, Stephanie Wolf (Fr.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) lost just one game as she won overall 6-1, 6-0.

The Blugolds also handled the other flights well but Emily Hiebl (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./East) narrowly escaped with a No. 3 singles win. After falling 6-2 in the first set, she came away victorious with scores of 7-5 (4), 10-6.

In doubles play, the Blugolds played in just one close match at No. 1. It ended with a 9-7 Taylor Heltne (So.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and DeMario win.

Gretchen Bachmeier (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Mary Frassetto (Fr.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) won 8-2 in the No. 2 spot while Hiebl and Wolf won 8-3 at No. 3.

Next up, the Blugolds will compete in the WIAC Automatic Qualifier Tournament in Whitewater on April 30. The winner will receive the WIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. Eau Claire will kick off action against UW-La Crosse at noon.
