Women's Tennis Comes Up Short to Grinnell and WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team was on the road on Saturday for two nonconference matches against Grinnell College and Washington University-St. Louis. The Blugolds fought hard during both matches but fell short on the team scores, 7-2 and 6-3.

Samantha Fuchs (Fr. – DeForest, WI) and Clare Palen (So. – Rochester, MN/Lourdes) got UWEC on the board in doubles play against Grinnell with an 8-5 victory in the #2 flight over S. De Los Reyes (GC) and M. Manchanda (GC). Fuchs continued her winning ways at the #4 singles spot with another win over De Los Reyes, 6-1, 6-2.

UWEC looked to bounce back in the second match against Wash-U of St. Louis, Elaine Franta (Jr. – White Bear Lake, MN) and Lindsey Henderson earned their first wins of the day at #1 singles over K. Johnston (WU) and A. Heidbreder (WU), 8-2. Fuchs and Palen found success again at #2 doubles with a 8-5 win over D. Sharma (WU) and C. Tsung (WU). The duo each went 3-1 in their matches during the day as Clare Palen took a 6-1, ret. victory over S. Huyunh at #2 singles for the team's third and final point of the evening.

The Blugolds will take the next week off to prepare for the 2022 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship on Saturday, April 30th in Whitewater, WI. Eau Claire will faceoff with UW_La Crosse at 12PM.
