Women's Tennis Falls to Winona State and UW-La Crosse

La Crosse, WI (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire women's tennis team was defeated 5-4 by Winona State October 7, and fell to UW-La Crosse 5-4 on October 8. 

Against Winona State sophomore Molly Stewart (Amery, Wis.) won 6-2, 6-4 at number 4 singles; while teammate Bailey Budnik (Manitowoc, Wis. / Lincoln) dominated her match at number 6 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1. Sarah Henderson (Prior Lake, Minn.) and Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, Minn.) earned a tough 9-7 win at number one doubles, and senior Brooke Volpone (Monticello, Minn.) and partner Hannah Zevenbergen (Baldwin, Wis./ Baldwin-Woodville) won at number 3 doubles 8-3.

On Saturday October 8, the Blugolds again came up one match short of UW-La Crosse. Wijesinghe defeated Spahn (UWL) 6-3, 6-2 at number 2 singles. Stewart came up big again at the number 4 singles slot, defeating Fleming (UWL) 6-3, 6-3. Budnik had another dominating win at number 6 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1. The pair of Henderson and Wijesinghe earned the Blugolds only doubles win on the day defeating Beliissimo/Spahn (UWL) 8-3 at number 1 doubles. 

The Blugolds now 2-2 in WIAC play will host UW-Stevens Point October 14, and UW-Oshkosh October 15.
