Women's Swimming & Diving Takes Down UW-Whitewater

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming & diving team picked up a 147-96 victory over UW-Whitewater at the McPhee Physical Education Center today.

The Blugolds came away with nine event wins.

Nicole Dorvinen (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) won two events with pool-record times to lead the Blugolds. She came in first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a pool-record time of 10:33.69, almost 40 seconds ahead of the rest of the field and more than 10 seconds faster than the previous pool record, while also winning the 500-yard freestyle with a pool-record time of 5:10.34. The previous pool record in the 500-yard event was 5:11.28, set by Laura Ladwig in 1982. The previous pool record in the 1,000-yard freestyle was 10:43.98, set by Laura Ladwig in 1981.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Julia Olson (Sr.-Faribault, Minn.) won with a time of 24.82 seconds. Kirsten Lickel (Sr.-Madison, Wis./East) won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.64.

Winning the 100-yard freestyle was Grace Fair (Jr.-Monticello, Minn.) with a time of 55.51 seconds while Sara Eggebrecht (Jr.-Abbotsford, Wis./Colby) took the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.69.

Emily Behrens (So.-Faribault, Minn.) won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.57.

The Blugolds also won two relays, the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Up next, the Blugolds will compete at the WIAC Championship. The three-day championship will get underway on February 16.
