Women's Swimming & Diving Falls to La Crosse

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming & diving team came up just short at its home meet against UW-La Crosse, falling 132-111 today at the McPhee Physical Education Center.

Nicole Dorvinen (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) and Julia Olson (Sr.-Faribault, Minn.) accounted for five of the Blugolds' six victories. Dorvinen raced to first in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle races as well as the 200-yard butterfly. She completed the 1,000 freestyle in 10:44.58 with a 27 second margin of victory. Dorvinen recorded times of 2:10.63, a pool record, and 5:16.36 in the respective butterfly and freestyle events.

Olson won both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle competitions. She completed the 50-yard event in just 24.86. In the 100, Olson led third-place finisher and teammate Grace Fair (Jr.-Monticello, Minn.) with a time of 54.68.

Kirsten Lickel (Sr.-Madison, Wis./East) also had a strong day of competition with two second place finishes in individual races. She completed the 200-yard individual medley in 2:16.10 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:33.41.

The Blugold relay team earned the final victory for the Blugolds. The quartet of Chloe Bartuska (So.-Madison, Wis./McFarland), Fair, Angie Bakula (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./West) and Lickel completed the 800-yard freestyle relay in 8:06.80 to pace the field. In the other relay, the 200-yard medley, Sara Eggebrecht (Jr.-Abbotsford, Wis./Colby), Emily Behrens (So.-Faribault, Minn.), Olson and Fair finished second.

The event was Eau Claire's last for 2011. The Blugolds will next compete at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational Jan. 20-21.
