Women's Swimming Finishes Strong at Falcon Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – Led by Nicole Dorvinen's (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) two victories, the UW-Eau Claire women's swimming team recorded 15 top-10 finishes at the Falcon Invitational hosted by UW-River Falls at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center this weekend.

Dorvinen paced the field in both the 200-yard butterfly and 400-individual medley races. She completed the 200 in just 2:07.87. In the 400, Dorvinen and Kirsten Lickel (Sr.-Madison, Wis./East) swept the top-two spots, led by Dorvinen's 4:36.40. Kia Kraft (Sr.-Menomonie, Wis.) also nabbed a top finish with a tenth place effort in the race. Dorvinen also finished second and ninth in the respective 1,650 and 500-yard freestyle events.

Lickel earned two additional top-10s with her efforts in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breaststroke. She completed the individual medley in just 2:13.34 for seventh and the breaststroke in 2:25.75 for third.

Sara Eggebrecht (Jr.-Abbotsford, Wis./Colby) scored top-five finishes in both the 100 and 200-backstroke races. She recorded times of 58.98 and 2:07.02 for fourth and third places, respectively.

The Blugold relay teams also produced some top finishes. In the 200-yard freestyle event, Grace Fair (Jr.-Monticello, Minn.), Lickel, Kristin Peters (So.-Farmington, Minn.) and Julia Olson (Sr.-Faribault, Minn.) combined for sixth place with a time of 1:40.05. Fair, Lickel, Chloe Bartuska (So.-Madison, Wis./McFarland) and Olson also nabbed seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Next Saturday, the Blugolds will host UW-La Crosse for a meet at the McPhee Physical Education Center. Meet time is set for 1 p.m.
