Women's Swimming & Diving Earns Top Finishes at Weekend Races

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming & diving team earned several top spots in both a triangular hosted by UW-River Falls and the River City Relays hosted by UW-La Crosse.

The Blugolds competed against Minnesota State University-Moorhead and River Falls on Friday. Though Eau Claire dominated the Falcons 228-68, the Blugolds narrowly fell 154.5-141.5 to Moorhead. Overall, Eau Claire snagged seven top finishes and 23 top-three places.

Julia Olson (Sr.-Faribault, Minn.) and Sara Eggebrecht (Jr.-Abbotsford, Wis./Colby) accounted for four of the Blugolds' seven victories with two wins each. Olson raced to first in both the 50 and 100-freestyle events with respective times of 24.98 and 55.18. Eggebrecht's times of 1:02.59 and 2:15.42 also placed her first in the respective 100 and 200-yard backstroke races.

Emily Behrens (So.-Faribault, Minn.) and Nicole Dorvinen (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) also represented Eau Claire with wins. Behrens completed the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.19 for the win while Dorvinen earned the top spot in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Dorvinen won the event with an effort of 10:53.94.

Eau Claire also nabbed a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The "A" team had a combined effort of 1:52.50 for first place.

At the River City Relays, the Blugolds placed third of five teams. Host UW-La Crosse won the event with 132 points.

The Blugolds' best event at the River City Relays was the 1,500-yard freestyle (3x500) relay. The Eau Claire 'A' team combined for the field-best time 16:19.50. In addition to four third place finishes, Eau Claire's 'A' team also picked up second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:53.17.

River Falls' Falcon Invite is the next event on the Blugold calendar. The two-day meet is scheduled for Dec. 2 and 3.
