Women's Swimming & Diving Splits at Home Invite

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming & diving team recorded one win and one loss today, defeating UW-Stevens Point but falling to St. Cloud State University (Minn.) at the McPhee Physical Education Center.

The Blugolds edged just ahead of the Pointers, picking up the 145-143 win. Against St. Cloud, Eau Claire managed 80 points to the Huskies' 214. St. Cloud also dominated Stevens Point, winning 228-72.

Overall, the Blugolds recorded nine top-three finishes on the day. Nicole Dorvinen (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) led the Eau Claire effort, picking up three wins. Dorvinen raced to victory in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:12.45 and the 400-yard individual medley in just 4:44.06. She also beat her challengers by a full 15 seconds in the 1,000-yard freestyle event with a final time of 10:50.28.

Sara Eggebrecht (Jr.-Abbotsford, Wis./Colby) also had a strong day. She recorded two individual runner-up finishes 100 and 200-yard backstroke events with respective times of 1:02.17 and 2:16.06.

Eggebrecht was also a part of the 200-yard medley relay team that placed second. Eggebrecht, Emily Behrens (So.-Faribault, Minn.), Julia Olson (Sr.-Faribault, Minn.) and Grace Fair (Jr.-Monticello, Minn.) teamed up to completed the relay in just 1:52.65.

Other top Blugold finishes included Kirsten Lickel (Sr.-Madison, Wis./East), who placed second in the 200-yard freestyle race with a time of 2:02.44. Olson nabbed a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and Fair also placed third in the 100-yard freestyle.

Next up, the Blugolds will take on UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, Nov. 12. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Oshkosh, Wis.
