Blugold Divers Compete at Minnesota Challenge

Blugold Divers Compete at Minnesota Challenge

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (UWEClugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming & diving teams were represented by only two members this weekend, as a diver from each team competed in the 2011 Minnesota Challenge.

Nick Badilla (So.-Appleton, Wis./North) represented the men's team and placed strongly in the one and three-meter dives. Badilla recorded the eighth-best dive of 260.80 in the three-meter competition. In the one-meter event, Badilla also had a solid performance with a result of 237.15, the 13th-best score.

Keeley Bensen (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) was the lone diver for the women's team and also performed solidly in the one and three-meter dives. Both of Benson's results were the 31st-best scores in the respective events, but her 137.00 rating in the three-meter was her best of the competition. Benson also completed a dive of 134.15 in the one-meter competition.

In two weeks, the entire men's and women's swimming & diving teams will compete in the WIAC Championship hosted by UW-Stevens Point.

While the Pointers captured both the men's and women's championship titles last season, the Blugolds are no strangers to winning the event. Respectively, the Eau Claire men's and women's teams have collected 25 and 19 team championships over the years, both most recently in 1999. This year's competition for the three-day event is set to begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17.
