Two Blugolds Earn WIAC Honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire men's hockey player Jordan Singer (So.-Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and women's swimmer Nicole Dorvinen (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Singer scored five goals and had three assists during the weekend as the Blugolds swept College of St. Scholastica (Minn.). In a 5-3 victory Jan. 21, the Blugolds came from behind to win. Singer assisted on the Blugolds' first goal and later scored a goal to get the Blugolds within one goal. He scored two more times later in the game, one at 15:02 in the second and one at 18:03 in the third, to record his first career hat-trick. On Jan. 22 in a 5-2 win, he assisted on the game-winning goal and scored two more goals to provide a cushion. He scored once on a power-play at 17:42 in the second and had an empty-net goal at 19:13 in the final period. Singer leads the Blugolds with 13 goals and 11 assists on the season.

Dorvinen won three events at UW-Stevens Point's Get to the Point Invitational held Jan. 21-22, where the Blugolds finished in third place out of six teams. She finished with a time of 5:17.11 in the 500-yard freestyle, 2:10.70 in the 200-yard butterfly and 17:54.44 in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Dorvinen was also part of the second-place 800-yard freestyle relay team.
