Women's Swimming & Diving Dominates in Victory over Oshkosh

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - After recording 13 victories in the 16 events, the UW-Eau Claire women's swimming & diving team earned a dominating 117-29 win over UW-Oshkosh today at the McPhee Physical Education Center.

Including the 13 victories, the Blugolds nabbed 33 of the top three finishing times in each event en route to the crushing win. Officials stopped awarding points to competitors after the women's eighth event.

Two Blugolds picked up multiple victories. Julia Olson (Jr.-Faribault, Minn.) swept the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events with times of 25.07 and 55.14 seconds. She also claimed the second best time in the 100-yard butterfly.

Nicole Dorvinen (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) bested the field in the 1,650-yard freestyle competition with a time of 18:05.84 as well as the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:40.67. The Eau Claire swimmers swept all three top-finishing positions in both of her events.

The Blugolds also picked up firsts in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke races with fastest times from Emily Behrens (Fr.-Faribault, Minn.) and Kia Kraft (Jr.-Menomonie, Wis.). Casey Preissel (Sr.-Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) took top spot in the 200-yard freestyle competition with a time of 1:59.67 and also grabbed a second in the 100-yard freestyle. Maggie Reilly (Fr.-Saint Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) claimed the 200-yard butterfly win and Abby Hinz (So.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) nailed a first place time in the 100-yard backstroke. Eau Claire also swept the top four spots in the 500-yard freestyle competition with Kirsten Lickel (Jr.-Madison, Wis./East) leading the team with a time of 5:32.38.

In the team events, Eau Claire grabbed first and second places in the 400-yard medley relay as well as the 800-yard freestyle relay.  The Blugold team also had success in diving, as Katrina Fitzgerald (So.-Farmington, Minn.) and Becca Moos (So.-White Bear Lake, Minn./St. Agnes) finished one-two in the one-meter dive led by Fitzgerald's score of 237.15. Eau Claire also took second and third places in the three-meter dive.

The Blugolds will host another meet next Friday when UW-River Falls comes to town. The meet is set to start at 6 p.m.
