River Falls, Wisconsin. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire women's soccer team hit the road Sunday to take on the UW- River Falls Falcons, coming home with a dominant 5-1 win.
The Blugolds started off strong as ever, organizing lots of offensive attacks, and keeping the Falcon defense on their toes with a total of 28 shots and 7 corner kicks.
Although Aliviah McClinton (UWRF) had the first goal of the match, Maddie Ames (Sr. – Shakopee, MN) leveled the score in the 16th minute with a goal from a penalty kick.
The next three Blugold scores came in rapid fire succession. In the 20th minute Megan Hansen (Jr. – Andover, MN) chipped the ball over the Falcon's keeper for her first tally. Just a minute later, off an assist from Kristen Guyon (So. – Lake Geneva, WI), Sophie Hubbard (So. – De Pere, WI) found the back of the net. And four minutes later, off a free kick right outside the box, Anna Kautzman (Sr. – Champlin, MN) tallied a score of her own.
In the second half in the 61st minute, Megan Hansen got herself another goal, and this one would be the final score putting the 5-1 win in the books.
Anna Sveiven (Sr. – Blaine, MN) stopped all 5 shots she faced and is now at 3-5-1, with the team advancing to 8-7-2 on the season.
The Blugolds will be back on the road again Saturday taking on UW- Platteville in their last regular season game. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
