ST. PAUL, Minnesota. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire women's soccer team hit the road Wednesday to take on Macalester College, falling to the Scots 0-2.
The Blugolds started off the match looking good. They controlled possession in the midfield and utilized the sidelines well for their offensive efforts. Hannah Schaetzel (Sr. – Germantown, WI) led those efforts with four shots of her own and the Blugolds collectively outshot the Scots 9-7. The also held the edge in corner kicks with four to the Scots' one.
As both teams returned to the field after a 0-0 first half, the hard-fought battle would continue in the second half.
Both teams kept the intensity and physicality high resulting in a game total of 23 fouls between the two squads. The Blugold defense shut down many of the Scots' offensive drives by strategically working together and well-timed clears, keeping the shots on their keeper to a minimum.
Alice Bieda (MAC) scored the lone goals of the game at 53:27 and 86:32 to give the Scots the 2-0 victory.
Kennedy Boll (Fr. – Blaine, MN) recorded four saves in the loss which brings the Blugolds to 5-5-2 overall.
The Blugolds will return to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, October 9th when they head to UW-La Crosse. Kick off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
