DULUTH, MN (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team traveled to the College of St. Scholastica for their third match of the year. The Blugolds took the original lead, but ended up tying, 2-2, after 110 minutes of play.
Kristen Guyon (So. – Lake Geneva, WI/Badger) started the scoring by slotting home a goal to the right side at the 17th minute. Sophie Hubbard (So. – De Pere, WI) jumped into the play down the right sideline, cut back towards the middle, and found Guyon open in the box for the first Blugold tally. Her assist would be her collegiate point in her career.
UWEC would hold the 1-0 lead for the rest of the half, but it wouldn't last long. Scholastica would answer just under two minutes into the second half after a penalty kick was awarded to the Saints.
Megan Hansen (Jr. – Andover, MN) would regain the lead for the Blugolds after receiving a through ball from Kori Millis (Fr. – Shakopee, MN). Once she was behind the defense, Hansen blasted the ball off one touch to the far-left corner and into the back of the net her second of the year.
The 2-1 lead would not last as the Saints would get the last tally just two minutes later.
The end of regulation would see neither side breaking the tie and they would need two periods of extra time. Despite the Blugolds receiving a red card in the 108th minute, the score would remain a draw at the final whistle.
Anna Sveiven (Sr. – Blaine, MN/Centennial) saved the lone shot she saw in the first half. Kennedy Boll (Fr. – Franklin, WI) stopped both shots on goal taken by the Saints in the second half and overtime periods and was credited for the draw. Boll is now 0-0-1 on the season.
The Blugolds will be back in Eau Claire this week with home games on Wednesday and Saturday. The weekday game against St. Catherine (MN) starts at 7:30 PM and the weekend kick off starts at 5:00 PM.
