Blugolds Draw with Auggies in Home Opener

ST. PAUL, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team hosted their first match of the 2021 season at Simpson Field on Wednesday. The Blugolds battled the Augsburg University Auggies under the lights and in front of a record setting crowd. Despite an extra 20 minutes of play, neither team was able to find the back of the net in the 0-0 draw.

The Blugolds controlled possession the game and tallied 7 shots on goal. Megan Hansen (Jr. Andover, MN/Anoka) led Eau Claire with four total shot attempts and played 96 of the 110 minutes.

Elise Pinewski (Fr. – Anoka, MN) led the offensive charge in the 32 minutes she played with six shot attempts. Pinewski was unable to find the back of the net, but the rookie showed promise playing up top alongside Hansen in her collegiate debut.

The defensive line stood strong only allowing 11 shot attempts from the Auggies. The teams played a physical game up and down the pitch and accumulated 23 total fouls between the squads.

Anna Sveiven (Sr. – Blaine, MN/Centennial) was credited with the tie after saving all five shots she faced in the first half. She starts the year with a 0-0-1 record.

The Blugolds will head on the road in their next contest, Friday. They will travel to Moorhead, MN to take on Concordia-Moorhead (MN) at Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm.
