Soccer Narrowly Falls to UW-Whitewater

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – In a close battle at Bollinger Field on Saturday, the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team narrowly fell to UW-Whitewater 2-1.

The Blugolds got down midway through the first half at 27:03 with a goal by Whitewater's Kelsey Finn. The first half ended with Whitewater outshooting the Blugolds 6-2, none of which were on-goal for Eau Claire.

In the second half, the Blugolds took more shots and finished outshooting the Warhawks 9-5 in the half. For the game, the teams were even with 11 shots each, though Whitewater had six shots on goal to three for Eau Claire.

Less than five minutes into the second half, Whitewater scored an additional goal to take a 2-0 lead but the Blugolds answered eight minutes later at 57:36 with a goal by Gina Williams (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Verona Area), assisted by Paige LeGate (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) to cut Whitewater's lead to just one. But neither team scored any more goals and Whitewater finished with the 2-1 win.

Nina Behrenbrinker (Jr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) played the entire game in-goal for Eau Claire and finished with four saves. Whitewater goalkeeper Jordan Myers finished with 90 minutes played and two saves.

Eau Claire is now 1-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play while Whitewater improves to 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in the WIAC.

Wednesday, the Blugolds will be at home again for a game against Wheaton College (Ill.) beginning at 4 p.m.
