Wrestling Tallies Five Place Winners at Don Parker Open

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team hosted their annual Don Parker Open at the McPhee Center on Saturday. With over 100 athletes competing across ten divisions, the Blugolds had five placement winners.

Results

Javon Taschuk (Fr. – Afton, MN/Stillwater) opened his day with a 14-7 decision victory over Jake Nohre (CMM) and a 41 second pin over Shaemon Erb (NW) in the first two rounds. A semifinal win over Austin Gabbert (AUG) sent Taschuk to finals to face Ty Bisek (CMM). In a heated battle between the two 133 divisions ahletes, Taschuk would fall in a 7-2 decision final to earn second place finish.

Evan Lawrence (Sr. – Hugo, MN/Mahtomedi) also took home a second-place finish in the 184 division. An opening pin over Antonio Davis (RCTC) pushed Lawrence into the quarterfinals to face Elijah Mitchell (LC). Two back-to-back tech fall wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals earned Lawrence a second-place finish after a medical forfeit in the finals to Dylan Connell (Ill.).

Chase Melton (So. – Spooner, WI) also earned a podium placement with a fourth-place finish at 184. Jackson Schichel (Fr. – Oswego, IL) and Joe Schulte (Fr. – Prescott, WI) both placed in the 197 division as Schichel took 5th and Schulte took 6th.

The Blugolds look ahead to next weekend when the team will travel to Oshkosh, WI for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. The conference championships at set to start at 9 AM at UW-Oshkosh.
