Box Score

The Blugolds opened the game in dominant fashion as they shutout the Scarlet Hawks in the first 15 minutes of play. Samantha Burns (Fr. – Mahtomedi, MN) recorded a hattrick in the first quarter alone to help UWEC gain a 6-0 lead after the first frame. Burns led the Blugolds in scoring all weekend with 14 goals in three games.

The second quarter was a similar song to the first as UWEC increased their lead to 9-1 with goals from Burns, Kylah Krause (Jr. – Belleville, IL/East), and Ruby Pozorski (Fr. – Burnsville, MN). The Blugold defense was a menace the entire contest as they forced 24 total turnovers by IIT, with 12 coming in the first half. The back line also limited the Scarlet Hawks to just seven shots in the first 30 minutes of play.

In the second half, Samantha Burns went on the attack again with two goals in the first three minutes of play. Burns finished the game with six total goals on seven shots on goal. Alexie Romanelli (Fr. - Naperville, IL) added to the lead shortly after for her second goal of the contest. Romanelli finished the game with two goals and three assists for a career high five points.

The final quarter was a group effort in scoring for UWEC as four different Blugolds found the back of the net before the final whistle. Lydia Wickersham (Fr. – Janesville, WI), Kylah Krause, Riley Domagala (So. – Bloomington, MN/Jefferson), and Gracie Bowman (Fr. – Mankato, MN) sealed the 16-4 victory with their tallies and extended the team's win streak to four.

Alexandria Shea (Fr. – Kenosha, WI) stopped eight of the 12 shots she faced for her fourth straight collegiate victory and a 4-0 record.

The Blugolds (4-0) will be back on the road on Wednesday, March 9th when they travel to Minneapolis, MN. UWEC will face Augsburg University at Edor Nelson Field at 4:30PM. In their inaugural season last year, the Blugolds won the lone matchup against the Auggies 14-11 at home.
