Women's Lacrosse Suffers Third Home Loss

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team dropped their Saturday afternoon matchup against UW-La Crosse, 15-4.

La Crosse built a large initial lead before an Eau Claire goal from Stephanie Martin (Jr.-Yorktown, VA/Tabb) with 12 minutes remaining in the first half.

Tomoe Hashiguchi (Sr.-Tokyo, Japan/Hiroo Gakuen) scored the second goal of the game for the Blugolds off an assist from Chloe Sundeen (Jr.-Roseville, MN), but UWEC still went into the half trailing 10-2.

The Eagles scored the first several goals of the second half, but Eau Claire tightened up the game over the final ten minutes. Maggie Philippi scored a goal off another assist from Sundeen after the Blugolds won draw control. A few minutes later, Sheridan Larson (Jr.-Apple Valley, MN) would also get on the board with an unassisted goal.

Even with the late goals, Eau Claire couldn't close the gap against the Eagles, with the final score reading 15-4.

In addition to scoring one of the four goals for the Blugolds, Larson also led the team with five shots, three of them on target. In goal, Bryanna Brost (So.-New London, WI) managed nine saves on the afternoon.

Eau Claire ended up being outshot 31-17 by La Crosse, but they did build advantages in ground balls (9-7) and turnovers (4-2).

The defeat moves UWEC to 4-3 on the 2021 season. They square off against UW-River Falls at home next this upcoming Thursday, April 29th.
