Women's Lacrosse Triumphs Clarke (IA) In Program's First Game

DUBUQUE, Iowa (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team defeated Clarke University (Iowa) on Saturday afternoon,13-9. It was the inaugural game for the program, which was introduced back in October of 2019.

While Clarke scored the first goal of the game, Eau Claire would respond by scoring the next four. They would come from four different Blugolds as Sheridan Larson (Jr.-Apple Valley, MN), Maggie Philippi (So.-White Bear Lake, MN), Jessica Borer (Jr.-St. Michael, MN) and Lilia Pugh (Jr.-Stillwater, MN/St. Croix Prep) all got in the scoring column.

The Blugolds would notch four more goals in the first half to go into the break up 8-3. Kelli Cole (Jr.-Eden Prairie, MN/Minnetonka), Riley Domagala (Fr.-Bloomington, MN/Jefferson), Philippi, and Emmalyn Tritschler (Fr.-Eagan, MN/Eastview) were the other goal-scorers in the period.

Eau Claire added a pair of goals within the first three minutes of the second half and held the lead the remainder of the game. Natalie Hanson (So.-Maple Grove, MN) added one more in the last seconds to finalize the score at 13-9.

The Blugold attack was on fire all day, as they had 47 shots on goal, compared to Clarke's 23. They also held an advantage on ground balls (30-28) and forced 12 turnovers on the day.

Cole would finish as the top goal scorer with three, while Domagala and Borer had two each. In goal, Bryanna Bost (So.-New London, WI) had ten saves.

The victory moves the Blugolds to 1-0 on the young 2021 season. They will play their first home game against Loras College (Iowa) on Saturday, March 6th. Follow the action on Blugold Game Day.
