ST. PETER, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team traveled to Minnesota to play against Gustavus Adolphus College in the First Round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament on Wednesday at Don Roberts Ice Arena. Eau Claire would fall to the Golden Gusties by a score of 3-0.

Box Score | Post-game press conference

The Blugolds and the Gusties would test out the water in the first 20 minutes of play. The Gusties would be the first on the power-play but wouldn't be able to capitalize on the opportunity. There wouldn't be much action in the net as Stephanie Martin (Sr.- Yorktown, VA/Tabb) would see just seven shots.

Both teams would hit the ice with high intensity, but Gustavus would get the jump on Eau Claire and score early in the second at 3:01. The Blugolds would then put the pressure on the Gusties trying to get out of the one goal deficit and would go into the third down 1-0.

The Blugolds would give everything they had in the final third period of the season, but the Gusties defense would challenge them, and they wouldn't be able to find the back of the net. Hanna Zavoral (Sr.-St. Paul, MN/Highland Park) would have a quality opportunity with four minutes to go but the Gustavus goaltender would make the save. Eau Claire would pull Martin and Gustavus would capitalize with back-to-back open net goals.

Eau Claire put 14 shots on goal while Gustavus tallied 24. Martin ends her season in net with a 19-5-0 record and the Blugolds wrap up their season with a record of 23-6-0. The 23 victories is a program record.
