No. 5 Women's Hockey earns fourth-straight shutout with 5-0 win over Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The No. 5 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team picked up their sixth-straight win on Saturday night, defeating Northland College by a score of 5-0.

After a scoreless first, the Blugolds got to work early in the second, scoring at the 1:20 on Danielle Slominski's (Jr. – Becker, MN/Princeton) fifth goal of the season. Sadie Long (Fr. – Farmington, MN) would earn the assist on the goal.

Samantha Scherling (Jr.- Rogers, MN) would tally another goal at 9:26 with assists from Hallie Sheridan (Jr. - Fergus Falls, MN) and Emma Peterson (Sr. - Superior, WI) to take a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.

In the third, Bree Osborne (Sr.- West St. Paul, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall) would convert on the powerplay, scoring at 2:25 off assists from Addie Young (Sr. – Superior, WI) and Hanna Zavoral (Sr.- St. Paul, MN/Highland Park). Osborne would strike again minutes later, this time thanks to an assist from Sheridan.

Sheridan would seal the win with a goal of her own at 16:07 with a Peterson assist, tallying her third point of the night and securing the 5-0 win.

Eau Claire dominated with 61 shots on goal to Northland's 7 on the night while goaltender Josie Mathison (So. – Tomah, WI) recorded 7 saves to pick up her second win of the season.

Eau Claire (20-2-0, 8-0-0 WIAC) will have their third game in as many days as they go on the road again on Sunday, this time heading to UW-Superior for a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.
