Women's Hockey wins fifth-straight in 4-0 victory over Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The No. 5 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team traveled to Ashland for a WIAC match-up against Northland College on Friday. The Blugolds would earn another WIAC win with a 4-0 victory over the Lumberjills.

In the first period it would not take the Blugolds long to find the back of the net with a passing combo from to Addie Young (Sr.-Superior, WI/Superior) and Jordyn McAlpine (Jr.-Stillwater, MN/Mahtomedi) that found Emma Peterson's (Sr.-Superior, WI/Superior) stick for the first goal of the night at 6:50. Hallie Sheridan (Jr.-Fergus Falls, MN/Fergus Falls) would follow up with a second goal at 12:46 in the game with assists coming from Sydney Johnson (So.-Apple Valley, MN/Apple Valley) and Young for 2-0 lead going into the second.

Eau Claire's aggressive offensive play would continue in the second period. Putting the pressure on Northland, Sheridan would score her second goal of the game at 19:51 with the assists from Hattie Verstegen (So.-Oshkosh, WI/Oshkosh North) and Danielle Slominski's (Jr.-Becker, MN/Princeton).

In the final period, Peterson would end the game how she finished by scoring at 15:20, her second goal of the game. She would have help from Samantha Scherling (Jr.-Rogers, MN/Rogers) and Peyton Rose Norman (Fr.-Yorkville, IL/Yorkville) earning the Blugolds the 4-0 win.

Stephanie Martin (Sr.-Yorktown, VA/Tabb) with back-to-back shutouts and 15 saves in net and continues her win streak and brings her record to 16-1.

Eau Claire (19-2, 7-0) will stay in Ashland for game two of two against Northland College on Saturday with a 7 PM puck drop.
