No. 5 Women's Hockey dominates Yellowjackets, 5-0

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The No. 5 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team hosted the University of Wisconsin-Superior for a rescheduled non-conference game on Wednesday, February 9th at Hobbs Municipal Ice Arena. The Blugolds would blow away the Yellowjackets with a 5-0 victory.

In the first period the Blugolds and the Yellowjackets would be evenly matched and would come out with a scoreless first.

In the second, Eau Claire would set the pace with scoring with Madison Garberding (Fr.-Willmar, MN/Willmar) scoring early at 2:32 with her first goal of the season, and with an assist from Abbie Delong (So.-Baldwin, WI/Baldwin-Woodville). Eau Claire would continue to dominate Superior with another goal coming at 8:12. Hallie Sheridan (Jr.-Fergus Falls, MN /Fergus Falls) and Sydney Johnson (So.-Apple Valley, MN/Apple Valley) would assist Danielle Slominski's (Jr.-Becker, MN/Princeton) power play goal, giving the Blugolds the 2-0 lead.

In the final 20 minutes of the game, Eau Claire would continue to put the puck in the back of the net. The third goal of the evening would begin with a combo from Johnson to Samantha Scherling (Jr.-Rogers, MN/Rogers) early in the third, at 2:18 raising the Blugolds to 3-0. The Blugolds would continue to extend their lead with a goal from Hanna Zavoral (Sr.-St. Paul, MN/Highland Park) at 8.29, with assists coming from Emily Hart (Jr.-Red Wing, MN/Red Wing) and Bree Osborne (Sr.-West St. Paul, MN/Cretin Derham Hall). Eau Clare would score their fifth goal at 10:25 with Samantha Bandholz (Fr.-Richfield, WI/Slinger High School) passing the puck to Addie Young (Sr.-Superior, WI/Superior) and Young putting one past the Superior goalie. The Blugolds would outshoot the Yellowjackets 45-8 in the win.  

Stephanie Martin (Sr.- Yorktown, VA/Tabb) saved all 8 shots she faced and tallies another shutout for the Blugolds. Her record moves to 15-1 in the net.

Eau Claire, (18-2, 6-0) hits the road again for a stretch of away games. The Blugolds face-off first against WIAC opponent Northland College on Friday, February 11th at 2 PM and Saturday, February 12th at 7 PM. They will then travel to Superior for another non-conference matchup with the Yellowjackets on February 13th with a 7 PM start.
