Slominski's goal lifts No. 5 Blugolds over Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The No. 5 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team faced off against WIAC opponent UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, with the Blugolds coming away with a 1-0 win.

In the first period, Eau Claire would dominate in possession but would not be able to capitalize on their opportunities and the period would end scoreless.

The Blugolds would continue their aggressive offense on the Pointers in the second. It would pay off at the end of the period with Blugold Danielle Slominski (Jr.-Becker, MN/Princeton) scoring with an assist from Hallie Sheridan (Jr.-Fergus Falls, MN/Fergus Falls) at 18:31. Eau Claire would go into the final frame with a 1-0 lead.

Stevens Point would try in the third for an equalizing goal but the Blugold defense would hold them off. The Eau Claire offense nearly doubled up Stevens Point in shots, out-shooting the Pointers 58-30.

Stephanie Martin (Sr.- Yorktown, VA/Tabb) would tally another shutout to her record with 30 saves in net and improves to 12-1-0 on the season.

The Blugolds (15-2-0, WIAC 4-0-0) return to Ice Hawks Arena to faceoff in game two against UW-Stevens Point on Friday, January 28th for a 7 PM puck drop.
